pretty ladies

Driving around near the Seattle Center the other night, I spotted some lovely mannequins all lit up at the costume shop on Denny Way. I made Dave pull over so I could hop out and take their portraits. I love the pink lady with her pink trees...if only my world looked like that.

Thanksgiving is rather pretty

I love the cool afternoon light in my kitchen, and the smell of pecan pie + apples + rosemary + sage + garlic + onions. It was a good day. A very good day.

P.S. I cannot believe that one year ago we were in the same city visiting our friends, sharing good food, and playing endless games of risk. (I still hate that game.) And now we are here, permanently, in this amazing place. It's incredible, this life.

This Thanksgiving left us with plenty to be thankful for. Mountains of thanks to z & j for absolutely making all this possible. We couldn't have done it without you, and I thank my lucky stars (if there is such a thing) for friends like you. And mountains of thanks to my mom, for being so patient and understanding, and helping us get where we are today. You are loved and appreciated more than you'll ever know.

From the files: Vernon Marsh

I thought these photos were long gone, but they turned up right on top of my photo box the other day. Sometimes moving helps you discover things you thought you lost (even if you moved over six months ago).

From a series done at an old abandoned ammunition testing facility at Vernon Marsh in Wisconsin. I think it's my most favorite creepy place ever.

House.

One of my new favorite hilarious blogs is It's Lovely! I'll Take It! where I can bask in the, um, glory of poorly chosen real-estate photos.

But the other day, amidst the usually hilarious captions and photographic oddities, I found something pretty sobering. Some might even call it beautiful. These are photos from a craigslist post listing a multi-unit residence for sale in San Francisco. You can find the full set here.

Here are my favorites.

All this gets me thinking about the things we keep inside the places we live. Why do we place things on a shelf? Why paint the chair orange and the wall pink? Why is the cereal bowl on the counter so beautiful? Whose hands wore down the corners of the cabinet doors? And can you play me a song on that guitar?

I don't know why. Maybe it's the quality of light. Maybe it's the glimpse into another world, another set of lives. But I think they are just beautiful.

NOTE: These photos are not mine. I'm happy to credit the photographer, whomever he or she may be. Just email me. I think you have a hidden talent.

Seattle + typography = love

Look what I just ordered from Ork Posters!

Fantastic hand-made screen prints. Love it. The blue one is going to look fabulous on my wall.

Never say never

Never ever have I ever been so excited to be a part of an election.

Never before have I felt excited about a candidate.

I am twenty-six. I never thought I'd live to see the day that a woman would run for president in the primaries and do so well. And furthermore, I never EVER thought I'd see the day that a black man would run for president.

and win.

(just an initial projection as of 7:00 PM Pacific time. you can all laugh in my face [or cry alongside me] tomorrow if i am wrong)

to be filled with hope. it's a strange and wonderful feeling. perhaps the changes won't come in four years. perhaps not in eight, or even twelve. but i am young, and i need something to cling to.

i might not sleep tonight.

(i tried to find a photo appropriate enough to post alongside these words, but nothing, simply nothing, will do)
