Hot tamale

That's what we all are here in Seattle. Little hot sweaty miserable tamales. Dog and cat are flopped on the floor, and I'm getting ready to shut this laptop down in about 2 minutes because it is generating far too much heat.

Today was the hottest day in Seattle. Ever. Topping off at 103. It is 8:15 now and still 100 degrees. We're all befuddled and ill prepared as ever, with air conditioning not being commonplace here.

Happily, I secured the very last available oceanside campsite within the State Parks system, and I am headed to cooler territory this weekend. I may just roll my sad sweaty self right into the sea and drift away.

Stay cool out there!

Laptop sleeve

Here's to making useful things! I just got a new laptop (hooray!) and of course needed to get some protection for it. The neoprene sleeves just didn't cut it for me -- too boring for my taste -- so I perused Etsy for something unique and handmade.

And I found nothing. No...wait...I found nothing that I could afford. Jeebus, people, I'm all about handmade, but I cannot pay $50 for a laptop sleeve.

So I set to creating my own from some fabric scraps. Took me less than an hour, fits perfectly, and it probably cost a total of 2 bucks to make.

The inside is soft fleece (remnant from fabric store), the outside is a funky pattern I found at IKEA (also a discounted remnant), and the clasp was made from an elastic hair tie and a vintage button. There are several patterns on the web, but I just measured by hand and winged it. Piece o' cake.

Wild

Feeling like a wild woman these days. Everything is moving too fast. Help! Help! (If only I had some leopard skin.)

I'm proud to say that a story I wrote about the farm up on the Shutter Sisters blog today. I'm thrilled to give the farm and the animals there some good positive exposure, and make everyone just a little more aware of what abused creatures go through.

Have a happy fourth, and remember to take care of one another.
