Adorable! And who doesn't love raspberries? I could eat 'em by the bushel full.
But delicious delicious raspberries hold a dark secret: their roots hold water. Lots and lots of water. And when big heavy roots that hold lots and lots of water happen to be located up against a house without proper waterproofing between house and dirt, it's a recipe for disaster. The wood sheathing of our house is rotting away near the garden, and the raspberries needed to come out. And then the wood needed to be fixed, and proper membranes put in between house and dirt, etc. So last summer, the digging began and the fence was ripped out. We saved what we could of the fence to be reused, and super awesome husband Dave gave our little old fence a new life as...
...a dining room table!

This is the first time in about 6 years that we've actually had room for a table, so this is actually kind of a big deal. Dave sanded down the old fence boards, arranged them in a random fashion to create the table top, and used the big thick fence posts as the 4 table legs. The whole thing was finished with Cabot "Moonshadow" colored stain and a couple of coats of polyurethane, and there you have it. A glorious, rustic table.

The table has actually been done for awhile, but I kept telling myself that I was going to get some better photos of it all styled up nice with plates and a table cloth before posting it on here. But who am I kidding. Right now the table has been taken over by sewing projects and stacks of paperwork that need to be filed. He he. (Sometimes we still eat on the couch. Shhh. But we do eat on real plates, I swear.)
